Trying to get that jobby job

I finally got everything done today and officially applied for five teaching jobs. I feel a little vulnerable putting that out there because now people will ask, "Did you get an interview?" and I'll totally feel lame if I have to answer, "No." Again, I'm going to try to put good vibes out into the universe and say, "I will get an interview because I'm awesome!" It mainly feels good to have my resume done and looking good. I called the BYU Education Placement Center today to ask a couple of questions and the woman who answered my call ended up helping me all day with my resume. She really was a godsend. I guess this also means I'm officially ready to enter the workforce full-time. In all honesty, I'd love to be insanely wealthy and able to stay home in between exotic trips but that just isn't reality. Ryan and I have chosen (poorly?) to work in public service and while we might be comfortable, we'll never be wealthy. I'm excited to get a real job but I know it's going to be a lot of hard work. Teaching is hard and because I come from a family of teachers, I'm not naive about the workload, or the sucky pay (in the USA). I'm glad I stayed home with the girls for as long as I did. I don't regret one moment of it but they are in school full-time and because my mom taught most of my life, I know they will turn out somewhat normal. One of the reasons I became a teacher was so I could be home with my kids during the summer and holidays. They both want me to work at their school but I don't think I'm going to get that lucky this time. It's sad to leave Orchard Hills because I have great friends and connections there. People keep asking me, "What connections do you have?" and sadly I have to answer, "None."

Last week was Spring Break and we stayed home but filled our days with endless fun. That's how we roll. My brother's family visited for part of the time, which is always a lot of fun. The big deal was getting the girl's ears pierced. My parents sent them each $20 for Spring Break and I told them if they wanted their ears pierced they could pay for it. Yep, I'm that kind of mom. They ran into their rooms and got me that money before I could even end the sentence. I took them on Wednesday with Nana to a Claire's at the mall and they bravely got them pierced. I just have to brag and say that they didn't even flinch. I thought for sure Miss Sensitive Gracie would have a tear or two but no, not even a frown. So yeah, Ryan wasn't that excited about it but he admitted it wasn't that bad, just like his dad did when Ryan got his ear pierced as a teenager. That's right.

Another part of our Spring Break fun was going to the Kennecott Copper Mine. Only the world's largest open pit copper mine. Jealous? There was swimming too (not at the mine) so don't think I can't be a fun mom. I did print out a worksheet for the kids to do at the mine, which kept them nice and occupied. I told the kids they would receive a prize if they filled it out correctly. When they were done they asked me what the prize was, to which I answered, "The gift of knowledge children and this shirt that says, Kennecott, One Hell of a Hole."

The kids had their eyes closed in every picture so they don't make the final cut. I think my sunglasses might be on the verge of being a tad too large. I'm no Zsa Zsa Gabor. And yes, it was cold. Our Spring Break included about six inches of fresh snow.
